Daily Journaling Week 28

I'm following the prompts of the original Documented Life 2014Week 28 : Add an Instagram or other tiny photo to your page.
And from the blog for Life Documented 2017 HERE : Prompt: light and dark - creating dimension
Technique: using color in different ways, getting loose - acrylic paint
This was last week - first week of our winter school holidays. Decided to choose a photo first - I ♥ the beach and on Sunday of this journaling week we were there. This is the other photo I could have chosen.
I already had the very blue background of acrylic paint in my journal. I had thought cleaning off stencils in my journal was a good way to not face a blank page, but I have found it to be more of an extra challenge than helpful when I am trying to work with these prompts. I already have my dark, so wanting to create light. First I used some lemon on one of my hand-carved stamps for the sunshine on the day.
I love stencils, so logical for me to add more layers in that way. Light to me always means adding layers of white and gold.
I then added a glaze layer of Turquoise (Phthalo) - adds depth and creates dimension the more layers you do. And then I decided to add some more white through a tiny stencil and some vibrant green foliage.
All my layers up to this point were using acrylic paint and I kept it loose by not filling in the space with the same stencil pattern. Then I outlined the foliage with my lovely gold metallic sakura pen - adding light and SHINE (my word for 2017) and added the XO to my photo and some sketchy outline to my small photo.
I love adding found words, and this definition from a large print dictionary fits my page perfectly, and adds a nice light contrast to the background. Click on any photo to see it larger.
I've gone down a different road than the page demonstrated for this prompt, but I am happy with the effect. I will use white or gold pen for my daily journaling on the darker facing page.
As I went to post at this point I realised I could do a small photo this week for each day and need very little words. So that's what I did this morning :-) I really like the feel of the page now the extra touches of black pen have been added

My 7th Bloggiversary

I started blogging in 2010 and here I still am 7 years later with post #893. I love the connection with creative soul-mates, the learning, the sharing, the record of my creative journey. One of the reasons I keep blogging is to share my process to hopefully encourage others to get ideas or inspiration to make creativity central to their lives and well-being. The other day I got such a lovely email that confirmed this is happening ♥ "I'm a newbie at art journaling. My journaling gave me an outlet to express my sadness but also appreciate my blessings.I'm not a very good artist in the mainstream view, but I love it. Your blog really encouraged me to at least try, and many ideas to implement in my journal. I can't speak for others, but I want you to know that your effort is highly appreciated by someone you don't know." This touches my heart.
The look of my blog has changed a little bit over time. This is a screenshot of my Blog header from 2012 :
And I updated it with new photos for 2016 :
I hadn't intended to change anything this year, but at the end of last month, my blog suddenly had a big icon hovering in the background from Photo Bucket. I was mystified since I couldn't remember ever having joined them, but eventually realised it came from my blog background above of the purple swirls. If you visit regularly you may have noticed that I sat with plain white surrounds for a couple of weeks. Luckily it's been school holidays and it's given me time to have a bit of a sort out. I updated the background, and while there decided to revisit the layout so now we have the list of labels on the left and there's more white space. I love the Tapa surround pattern and with the new template I decided to streamline my header as well :
Hope you like the new look. I thought it might be fun to look back at my favourite projects from the first 6 months of my blogging journey :
Paris Book - gifted to a friend. Fabric cover, stitched papers
Lutradur Gift Box
Hearts and Butterflies handmade cards
First experiments using sprays and stencils! - now one of my favourite and most used techniques
Stitched treasure box
Fairy slippers made for my Grandmother's 100th birthday (Feb 2011 but had to add them here)
I also gave my first talk about mixed media fibre art in 2010 - little did I know that I'd end up teaching from this first foray ♥
Each year I've done a post where I look back on all my projects from that 12 months - click on the year to see those : 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016
In case you're new here, I thought I'd also share my favourite projects so far this year. It's obvious that art journaling plays a much larger role in my creative life now and I'm doing 3 main journal projects this year.
Life Documented is my Daily Journaling project. I loved decorating my cover.
I ♥ Book of Days - hard to pick a favourite art page - this might be it
or this
Or....See all my work from this class HERE.
My word of the year is SHINE - read my post about choosing my word HERE. This is my Vision Board from Ali Edwards' monthly prompts :
See all my work from the One Little Word class HEREIt was definitely my time to shine in June when I turned 50!
I have just had my lovely sewing machine serviced and am looking forward to more stitchy projects in the second half of this year.
I've already completed a quilt : Disappearing 9 Patch
and just started a new one that is a long-term project!
See my previous post about this hydrangea quilt. You know I'll be blogging about my progress - I hope you'll continue to follow me on my creative journey here or through my FB artist page. Talk to you again soon.

New Hydrangea quilt project

This is me happily starting the school holidays this past weekend with a day-long class to find out how to make this beautiful dimensional hydrangea quilt by talented quilt maker Adrienne Walker :
We were well set-up at a friend's house
the pot-luck lunch was delicious
and by day's end I had made a single leaf
an organza sandwich for a skeleton leaf
and a couple of flower petals
This is what the whole group completed :
Since then I have set myself up a wee kit so I can make more flower petals every chance I get - MANY more flower petals. One of those flower heads has at least 70 petals! I am going to do a variation on this quilt but probably still need to complete 2 heads....
Only 133 petals to go, and quite a few leaves as well. I will keep you posted with my progress.

One Little Word 2017 : July Encouragement cards

I'm taking Ali Edwards' One Little Word OLW workshop. The monthly prompts encourage you to connect with your word throughout the year and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with SHINE as we head into the second half of the year. This month Ali talked about encouraging yourself with positive self-talk : how can you reset your course with positive affirmations? I've been using my Inner Work Journal regularly and it makes me very happy - I put tape on most of the edges so it looks pretty from the side view
A new month means a new theme in Book of Days as well as in One Little Word.
This is the bottom of our monthly reflection for July in Book of Days. Effy is encouraging us to "Embody the light from whence you come. Shine". Completely aligned with my word ♥
Below is an example of a spread from my Inner Work Journal -  I glue helpful or loved things in, write what's on my mind usually in pretty colours, add lovely tape....
This is what I wrote the first weekend of this month : Beginning July and wanting to keeping SHINING and happily I immediately find support in BOD theme for July {Light}  and this poem :
{Find Victoria Erickson on FB HERE}
I had such a fantastic month in June celebrating my birthday and feeling like the universe and I are in alignment ♥
Now we are half-way through the year and it is time to take a breath and think about what's next. How do I want to feel in another 6 months? What's the next piece of work to be done? How do I get closer to my dream? Do I need to revisit or change some of my goals from January? How can I reach new levels of SHINE and happiness? How can I help others achieve happiness?
Turning to One Little Word and considering where I need encouragement - I know I'm doing well in the areas of Share, Inner Work, Notice, Enjoy. There is definitely room for improvement in the area of Healthy. While I am maintaining a good gym habit, if I miss going in the morning (for whatever good reason) I don't try and do something else later in the day. Also while I am aware of trying to eat more green foods, I'm still eating too much "junk" and this is affecting my energy levels and therefore levels of rest and overall well-being. In February our prompt was Practice - I did very well for that month and discussed Gretchen Rubin's great book "Better than before". After birthday month and some perimenopausal challenges I need to refocus. I created this page in my Daily Journal last week which reflects my feelings very well :
The messages I personally need to hear right now are about food as fuel - healthy eating = good energy to enable me to do all the things I'm wanting to do in my day and into the night. It's not about weight loss or feeling better about how I look - I'm actually quite happy with that (and to be honest, perhaps that's why I'm not so strict about following the rules that are good for me!). It's about feeling energised and bubbly. I'm not beating up on myself that I've fallen off the rails...I'm starting fresh today. I have a new tracking sheet to live on my bench
and I decided that one page is enough in my Inner Work journal to respond specifically to this month's OLW prompt. I've been writing a lot around this topic anyway. Reflections card and Practice heading from digital OLW - printed on old Calendar paper.
Here's my completed page of encouragement cards for July :
I know that's a lot of sharing in my post, but that's why my blog is called "All of Me". Hope you find some encouragement and/or inspiration in it. See all my posts about OLW 2017 HERE, and my Flickr album which includes any art featuring my word as well as the class prompts HERE.
